Fifteen years ago, when I first published You Are Not Alone, I was at the pinnacle of my legal career, working at one of the top law firms in the country. By all external measures, I was living the dream — successful, respected, and thriving professionally.
Yet, despite these achievements, I felt unfulfilled. The dream I was living wasn’t my own, and I grappled with a profound lack of purpose.
Then came YANA.
God began waking me up at 5 AM, and I started channeling my deepest thoughts and prayers into writing. I poured out my heart’s longing for love, peace, prosperity, and good health. I wrote about the heartbreak of witnessing my mom’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease, the pangs of loneliness even in company, and my desperate search for purpose — hoping that discovering it would bring meaning to my days.
Has anyone else ever searched for purpose, only to realize you’ve been living it all along?
I can’t pinpoint the exact moment when I understood that writing this book was my true calling. What I do know is that this book set me on a path I continue to follow, as I celebrate this second printing. My prayer is that it will keep helping people feel seen, heard, affirmed, supported, and loved. May it continue to remind those who need it that we are not alone.
